So I was looking around for something to blog about today and found mostly it was a same ole same ole in the news.  Then I really looked at this page from cnn.com.  Talk about your MSM backed candidate.  Obama’s name is mentioned 14 times, 6 times in story titles.  McCain is mentioned once.

They beamed, hugged and praised one another. Their outfits even matched.

Now overall this is advertising that no amount of fundraising can buy.  You have to wonder just what the polls would show with equal coverage.  John McCain is out their fielding any questions, stating clearly his plans and policies, and making sense doing it.  Obama is playing president prior to being elected, spouting nothing of any meaning, spreading his unrealistic dreams AND getting all the media coverage (78% on average).  To me this spells out that if all things were equal and Obama’s name wasn’t forced in front of your face every second by the biased media, McCain would be dominating the polls.

I really think that as this circus act rolls on and November gets closer that people will be much more concerned about the issues.  It is my opinion that people will want a known factor, one that has proven himself over time, and one that makes real sense with what he says.  McCain is that person in my opinion.  What do you think?

It’s funny – I was having a conversation about this last night, not necessarily media bias but rather what dictates what media outlets are reporting. I believe the answer is simply dollars.

There is a reason we are seeing more and more entertainment and ’soft’ news on the front page of CNN – people find it interesting. Likewise, there was a reason news outlets were rushing to follow Obama overseas rather than tour around McCain and his ‘Woe is me’ Express – people were curious. A viable non-white presidential candidate from arguably the most powerful nation in the world visiting France, Germany, England and the Middle East has piqued people’s interest.

Let’s be frank, we live in a superficial world. Compound that with the fact those using the web as a primary means of news gathering are generally a slightly younger demographic than those relying on traditional media. A young, attractive and charismatic candidate will appeal to more people than the older Senator from Arizona. The news media is a business, selling advertising, driving traffic and trying to capture a wide audience. They will promote what sells.

Bill Clinton remains more popular than John McCain and so we are likely to see him more in headlines on the web than we are McCain. There was the Hillary vs Barack drama – your average Joe likes drama. Essentially, the media outlets will give us what we tell them to, which also means there is great interest in Obama.

Nevertheless, it was a very interesting read and gave me something to think about.
